The Fait Gallery will host the first exhibition of Jaromír Novotný entitled As Seen In Their Natural Environment. The artist works with subtle means of expression, through which you can glimpse the process of creating paintings. At the current exhibition Jaromír Novotný will present his latest works.
In the context of recent and contemporary Czech art, Jaromír Novotný's work can be associated with the notion of inconspicuous tendencies in the sense of humbleness before the state of being, yet in contrast to his peers, he stages this experience mainly in the field of "image". What is essential for him is the process of constructing a visual language, in which he explores the sensory effects of various practices in painting, drawing, graphic art and photography through observation. The exhibition in the Fait Gallery will present a selection of his latest works; alongside individual pieces, the next evolutionary stage of Novotný's approach to image-making, in which he currently is, will be elucidated. In terms of form, these consist of acrylic scumble-covered transparent polyester on wooden frames where Novotný places, stitches or pastes various objects from his immediate surroundings. The series exhibited was chosen for this specific space as carefully as the paintings themselves were composed. They integrate the handling of the determination of things. In them, we can see traces of the process of creation, thanks to which we are able to experience the temporality that usually stands outside the image. Novotný also works with the revision of assumptions through which stereotypes are reduced. The intensity of the sensory experience is enhanced by the reduction of the means of expression and the transfer of attention to the "captured".
Jaromír Novotný (*1974), after training as a printer, graduated from the studios of Jitka Svobodová and Miloš Šejn at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. He focuses primarily on non-representational painting with an emphasis on its material nature. He has recently been exploring its overlaps with objects. His solo exhibitions were held in the Brno House of Art (2021), Georg Kargl Gallery, Vienna (2016), the House of Art in České Budějovice (2015) and the Kolumba Museum, Cologne (2012). He regularly exhibits in the hunt kastner gallery, Prague, Geukens & De Vil, Antwerp, and Axel Vervoordt Gallery, Antwerp & Hong Kong. He has been represented at group exhibitions in the Rudolfinum Gallery, Prague (2023), the Arsenal Gallery, Bialystok (2017), National Gallery, Prague (2016) and many others.
